When to use tools vs. hire a strategist
Not every problem needs hands-on strategy work. Here's how to decide.
Tools work well when
The problem is contained and you have time to work through it yourself. You want a framework to guide your thinking, and budget is limited.
Strategy work is better when
The problem is complex, politically sensitive, or the cost of getting it wrong is high. You need external perspective and stakeholder alignment.
How to decide
Ask yourself: "If I get this wrong, what happens?" If the answer is "we waste 3 months and some budget," use a tool. If it's "we build the wrong product and lose market position," get help.
